Burgandine House
Comprehensive
architecture and engineering services were required for the stabilization and
restoration of the historic Burgandine House. Constructed in 1749, the Burgandine
House is the oldest frame dwelling in Culpeper and is listed on the National
Register of Historic Places.

| The work required to stabilize and restore this important log structure was completed under the direction of Historical Architect, Douglas J. Harnsberger. The scope of services provided for the project included a comprehensive structural analysis of the buildings existing conditions; preparation of construction documents and specifications; preparation of bid documents; contract negotiations; and construction administration. |
| Restoration of the historic dwelling included the complete excavation of the crawlspace to allow for proper drainage to the rear of the site; rebuilding a new rubble stone foundation; sill plate jacking to repair and replace the log walls; reconstruction of the original front porch and rear steps; restoration and replacement of exterior beaded weatherboard, floor joists and floorboards; installation of a new electrical system and new insulation; and restoration of the windows, wood shingle roof and brick chimney. |
