Virginia House

Virginia House is a reconstructed, 12th-century English priory brought to Richmond, Virginia from England by Ambassador Alexander Weddell. Commonwealth Architects was selected to provide full architectural drawings and specifications for the following: the installation of new nine-zone HVAC and humidity control systems; upgrading electrical service; plumbing repairs; Cotswold Stone, and Hendricks tile roof replacement; design and installation of custom UV window panels; masonry restoration of the belt course, sandstone and brick walls, parapets, Flemish gables, window hoods and sandstone window casings; and the design of a new Assembly Hall addition.

In addition to the work described above, Commonwealth Architects has recently completed a second project for Virginia House. The firm provided comprehensive architectural design services for a new retaining wall and greenhouse to support the historic landscaping and gardens designed by renowned landscape architect, Charles F. Gillette.
